Proposed Symbol of Nepali Rupee

Design Rationale

The proposed symbol is derived from one of the two forms of “Ra” in the Devanagari script that can technically be used to write rupaiyan.

It also closely corresponds to the letter “Ra” in the Prachalit script, an indigenous and historically significant Nepalese writing system.

Visually, the symbol closely resembles the Devanagari “Na (न)”, as in the words Nepal (नेपाल) and Nepali (नेपाली).

The inclusion of horizontal strokes is a feature common to many international currency symbols, suggesting potential alignment with global monetary design practices.

The design prioritizes structural simplicity, enabling ease of reproduction in both digital and print media.
